COP28: The Mohammed VI Foundation presents its climate action plan in Dubai


Under the effective Presidency of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, a large delegation from the Foundation actively participates in various events in the blue and green zones of COP28.

With its status as Observer Member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) since 2009, the Foundation has asserted its presence in this large-scale global event in favor of the fight against climate change.

The Foundation is dedicated to presenting its initiatives aimed at supporting the climate and promoting the decarbonization of the Moroccan economy as part of its air and climate cluster.

The opportunity to present the Carbon Assessment Tool, updated in 2022, with the involvement of members of the Framework Convention for the decarbonization of the Moroccan economy, to support economic actors in calculating their carbon footprint with emission factors adapted to the national context.

The Foundation itself uses this Carbon Assessment Tool to assess its annual greenhouse gas emissions having joined the SME’s Climate Hub, an initiative of the UNFCCC aimed at encouraging carbon emitters to achieve the objective of zero emissions by 2050.

As part of its commitment, the Foundation is mobilizing around thirty young ambassadors from its African Youth Climate Hub (AYCH) initiative. This initiative aims to support a new generation of leaders dedicated to the environmental cause.

These young ambassadors represent Africa at more than a dozen conferences and side events, providing a voice for African youth and highlighting their work within this network as well as on the ground.

Another fundamental axis of the Foundation’s action concerns the seas and oceans pole. At COP28 in Dubai, the Foundation will also present its important work for the protection of seas and oceans, whose role for the climate is today recognized as essential.

With the International Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, which promotes the Decade, the Foundation will present in Dubai the latest developments in its action for the Decade of Oceans, particularly in Africa.

Finally, the Foundation highlights its work in Education for Sustainable Development at the heart of its action and the concerns of its President, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, present in Dubai to participate in a high-level event on the subject .

The Foundation deploys several Sustainable Development Education programs for children from preschool to students: Eco-Schools, Young Reporters for the Environment, Global Schools, African Green Universities and Youth Environment Network (AGUYEN), African Youth Climate Hub (AYCH). She also designs educational tools and an e-learning program for children in rural areas of Morocco.

Twelve young people from the Foundation’s “Young Reporters for the Environment” program, a representative from each region of Morocco, are also present in Dubai accompanied by their supervisors, thanks to the support of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports , to participate in around fifteen events.
