Gatland has confirmed that Jones, who has appeared in the Lions’ last nine tests, will return to Wales on Sunday when the team leave for South Africa.

Exeter Chiefs quartet Luke Cowan-Dickie, Stuart Hogg, Jonny Hill and Sam Simmonds will also join the 37-man tour as scheduled in Edinburgh on Sunday after playing the Gallagher Premiership final on Saturday, which the Chiefs lost 40-38 at the Harlequins.

The Lions play the first game of their eight-game, three-test tour of South Africa in Johannesburg on July 3.
