Conor McGregor will likely return for his next fight in the fall, Dana White tells talkSPORT, after Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz fight rumors

Conor McGregor will likely return to the Octagon this fall, UFC President Dana White has told talkSPORT.

The Irishman is said to be nearing the end of his recovery after breaking his leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier last year.

White revealed that we will see McGregor again later this year

The Irishman suffered a nasty broken leg in his third fight with Poirier

And, although McGregor wants to return to fighting this summer, his boss believes it will be sometime later in 2022 when fans will see the former champion fight.

There have been rumors the 33-year-old could fight Nate Diaz or Poirier again, with the YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul also keen to take on the superstar – either in the octagon or in the boxing ring.

But White has suggested that the winner of the title fight between Justin Gaethje and lightweight champion Charles Oliveira on May 7 could be McGregor’s next opponent later this year.

White told talkSPORT: “I’m not worried about [finding McGregor an opponent] because, first of all, Conor isn’t even fighting right now.

“He’s not back until the fall [autumn] – if everything goes well. So a lot of games will be played this summer and regardless of who wins or loses, when Conor is cleared by a doctor and ready to go, we’ll figure out who’s next.

McGregor, himself, is keen to compete again this year, but the Irishman insists he won’t rush until he’s fully recovered.

McGregor has put on muscle during his recovery and looks a lot bulkier

McGregor said earlier this year: “I have to take it day by day. April, they said I’d be back to practice and turn around and shoot.

“I was told I could box a few months ago and then all of a sudden I couldn’t box anymore.

“So I’m taking it day to day, there’s no rush. I’m in a great place mentally.

“Physically, I feel strong, I feel energetic. I’m always eager to come in and fight, so [I’ll] take it day by day and it will happen.

“It will happen when the Lord wants it to happen.”
