Conor Gallagher scoffs at comparisons to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, stresses focus on Crystal Palace

The Crystal Palace midfielder, who is on loan in south London from the Blues, has been compared to former Chelsea midfielder and manager by Eagles boss Patrick Vieira.

Vieira cited Gallagher’s ability to score goals and time his arrival in the box perfectly – talents that were on full display with his goal against rivals Brighton on Friday night.

Gallagher, however, doesn’t think of the comparison.

“Let’s be serious…Frank Lampard, I can’t be compared to someone like that,” Gallagher told Sky Sports.

“I couldn’t be happier when he came in. I was just trying to get a touch on it! I tried to put him in the corner, didn’t even look up, I don’t think. “

The 21-year-old has caused a stir on loan at Selhurst Park this season and is proving one of the signings of the season.

Gallagher has six goals and four assists in 19 appearances for Palace in all competitions and also earned his first call-up to the England squad.

Despite all the hype around his performances, Gallagher is not getting carried away by dreams of returning to Chelsea and playing under Thomas Tuchel.

“We know Chelsea are one of the best teams in the world right now, they’re a tough team to break into,” Gallagher said.

“I’m not really thinking about that at the moment, I’ll try to do my best for Crystal Palace.

“The way football is scored by goals and assists deserves praise for you like me. I have to keep performing, not just goals and assists, but I’m happy with how it’s going so far. now.”
