“The select committee is gathering facts at this stage, not alleging any wrongdoing on the part of an individual,” a spokesperson for the panel said in a statement on Monday.

The statement follows CNBC reporting that the letters of request ask recipients to safeguard any information they may have on people who have been “charged with crimes associated with the [6 January] attack ”by the Department of Justice, as well as people“ involved in organizing, funding or speaking out ”at rallies in Washington that promoted“ objection to certification of electoral college votes ”.
