1 Compensation for farmers
Many farmers spontaneously mobilized during the fires in the Monts d’Arrée to support the firefighters in their fight against the flames. Several of them thus used their slurry tankers and their cisterns as water reservoirs.
Following these actions, the agricultural unions FDSEA and JA requested, from the departmental council, “financial compensation for the diesel consumed for all the farmers who volunteered”, they explain in a press release. A request which was accepted by the president of the Department, Maël de Calan.
2 An elected official opposes “market solidarity”
This decision taken by the president of the departmental council reacted Yannick Jaouen, elected municipal opposition official in La Feuillée and deputy to MP Mélanie Thomin. In a press release, he opposes “merchant solidarity”.
He underlines the “remarkable” commitment of farmers during the fires, but wonders: “It is regrettable to monetize their act of solidarity. If solidarity pays off, what about elected municipal councilors who, in their vast majority, do not receive any compensation (…)? What about all the volunteers who invest daily in the territory (…) without any financial compensation? »
3 Comments described as “inadmissible”
One reaction leading to another, the mayor of La Feuillée, Jean-François Dumonteil, insisted on dissociating himself from the remarks made by Yannick Jaouen: “They only commit him. He made a point of specifying that himself and the majority of the municipal council “approved the initiative of Maël de Calan for the compensation of the voluntary farmers whatever the size of their exploitations”.
Jean-François Dumonteil assured that there would be “no one left behind. That’s how we see things in La Feuillée, ”says the mayor.
The clear opinion of Yannick Jaouen also angered Bruno Berréhar. This young farmer from Botmeur spent more than thirty hours fighting the fires: “It is unacceptable to say things like that. This volunteering made it possible to limit the damage and help the firefighters. Diesel, if compensated, represents only a third of the expenses incurred by operators during this period”.
