Classified documents discovered at the home of former US Vice President Mike Pence

About 300 documents with classified marks were discovered in former US Vice President Mike Pence’s home in Indiana.

His attorney, Greg Jacob, said Pence “engaged an outside attorney, with experience handling classified documents, to review records stored in his personal home after it became public that documents with Classified Marks Found in President Joe Biden’s Residence in Wilmington.”

Jacob added that there was only a “small number” of papers that “were inadvertently packed up and transported to his personal home at the end of the last administration”, adding that Pence was unaware of their existence.

The White House declined to comment.

“Look, I’m not going to comment on an ongoing criminal investigation or any investigation whatsoever,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. “As you all know, the Justice Department is independent and we won’t interfere politically. We’ve been very, very clear about that under this president. The president has been very clear since his campaign promises.”

This is the latest in a series of discoveries of confidential information in private residences.

The Justice Department is already investigating the discovery of classified records at President Joe Biden’s Delaware home and his former Washington office, as well as former President Donald Trump’s Florida estate.

All deny any wrongdoing.
