Cisco High School Group Becomes First in School History to Visit State | KTAB

CISCO Texas (KTAB / KRBC) – The 2021 Mighty Lobo group became the first in Cisco school history to qualify for the UIL walking competition. Their show “Shades of Joy” will be presented at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio on November 9 against 16 of the state’s top 2A groups.

“We’ve had bands in the past that came together, but there’s just something exciting about this band,” says band director Tony Dorsey.

Dorsey attributes their success this year to a solid foundation they’ve been able to build over the past few years.

“I don’t think it’s a change this year, it’s something we’ve been building for a number of years,” Dorsey said. “This group has been at a good level, but we are still teaching them how to reach that higher level.”

Cisco senior Ariana Swindler and Jay York say it’s been a dream for them since they first joined.

“We worked hard last year, but even harder this year, and I think that’s what gave us this latest push to state,” Swindler said.

“Knowing that you’re part of this band and making this amazing music, I think, is just a much better feeling,” York said.

The community rallied around the group, decorating the group room with posters and congratulations before their trip to San Antonio.

“It feels good to have been successful,” says Swindler.
