Chelsea have reportedly targeted Sevilla defender Jules Kounde to solve their centre-back crisis this summer.
The Blues are set to lose both Andreas Christensen, who looks set to move to Barcelona, and Antonio Rudiger, who has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid, when their contracts expire at the end of the season.
And, after agreeing to sign him last summer before the deal fell through, Thomas Tuchel is once again keen to strike a deal for the France international.
According to The Times, the 23-year-old wants to leave Sevilla this summer and wants a move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are currently unable to make any new signings under the club’s UK government sanctions, which has also prevented them from tying Christensen and Rudiger to any new deals.
The sale of the club could, however, be finalized by next month, allowing the Blues to go about their business as usual.
Kounde has been a key member of Sevilla’s squad over the past few years, helping them win the Europa League in 2020 and currently second in La Liga this season.
He also has nine caps for France, where he plays alongside Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, including two in the semi-finals and finals of the Nations League in 2021.

You can see why Chelsea are targeting him, especially considering their only centre-back options next season are Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr.
They also have Ethan Ampadu, Matt Miazga and Jake Clarke-Salter, who will return from loan spells but are unlikely to make the first team next season.
Levi Colwill is one loanee who could be an option for Tuchel next year, however, after impressing at Huddersfield in the Championship.
But that still leaves them light at the back, which is why a move for Kounde makes sense, amid a flurry of defensive departures at the end of the season.
