Chelsea are set to travel to the UAE in 2022 after Fifa confirmed that the Club World Cup will be held in the Middle Eastern country early next year.
The Blues qualified for the tournament thanks to their Champions League final victory over Manchester City last season.
Japan was originally scheduled to host the tournament in December this year, but pulled out last month due to the COVID-19 situation in the country.
“It was decided (during the meeting of the FIFA Council) that the 2021 Club World Cup will be played in early 2022, the precise dates remain to be defined, but the hosts after the withdrawal of Japan due to the pandemic, the hosts will be the United Arab Emirates. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.
The UAE has hosted the tournament four times already – in 2009, 2010, 2017 and 2018.
Last year, FIFA chose Japan as the host for a traditional seven-club event after an expanded 24-team tournament, originally scheduled for China in June 2021, was delayed due to the pandemic.
The annual competition brings together the champions of the six world confederations as well as the league winners of the host country.
