Chelsea injury update: Reece James, N’Golo Kante and Armando Broja return dates and latest news

VS

Helsea face a significant injury list as the Premier League restart looms.

After suffering another blow in the friendly against Aston Villa, when Armando Broja suffered a potentially serious knee injury, Graham Potter could do with some reinforcements and fast.

Reece James, N’Golo Kante, Wesley Fofana and Ben Chilwell are among the players demanding feedback.

The Blues have at least a fortnight before their next game, which is against Bournemouth on December 27.

Here is your latest update from Injuries at Chelsea and absences…

Reece James

Released from the World Cup with a knee injury at AC Milan on November 10, James was unable to return to action a month and a day later against Villa.

But the 23-year-old stepped up his comeback with a return to light contact training this weekend. Chelsea boss Potter said he had “progressed” in his recovery after the game against Villa.

All signs point to James being fit to play a role against Bournemouth.

N’Golo Kante

France midfielder Kante is “progressing well”, according to Potter, having also missed out on the World Cup.

He underwent surgery for a hamstring injury sustained throughout August and a return isn’t likely until January, at the earliest.

Potte said last week: “N’Golo is a bit further but again he is making good progress.”

Chelsea were hit by the removal of Broja on a stretcher in the friendly loss to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Albanian striker returned home on Monday to undergo a CT scan, which will diagnose the severity of the painful-looking injury.

Potter said: “It was an unfortunate action, I think he made up for it with their player and the ground. It doesn’t look positive at the moment, but it’s too early to tell. Fingers crossed , but it’s annoying.

Wesley Fofana

Fofana’s early career at Chelsea was disrupted by injury as well as a change of manager, and he hasn’t played since October due to a knee problem.

However, like James, the centre-back has also been described as ‘moving forward’ in his recovery and he is back in training.

Ben Chilwell

One of Chelsea’s many World Cup absentees, left-back Chilwell is pinned for an intensification of his return from a hamstring injury in the coming days.

He is not yet back in full training and the game against Bournemouth could come too soon.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

A calf injury has kept Loftus-Cheek out since suffering the blow against Newcastle just before the break and he too isn’t quite close to a comeback yet.

Potter said over the weekend: “Hopefully Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ben Chilwell can also get a step up in rehab next week, so we’re optimistic about that.”

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Absent from the friendly match with Villa and the World Cup, Kepa has suffered from a foot problem since his defeat against Brighton at the end of October.

The goalkeeper was described by his manager as ‘not quite with the team yet but he stepped up his rehabilitation’ last week.

Carney Chukwuemeka

A hamstring injury hit Chukwuemeka in early November and his absence is somewhat glossed over given the break.

The youngster was still unavailable for Sunday’s game but Potter gave an upbeat update by naming him among those ‘moving on’ after the final whistle.
