Charges dropped against rapper accused of shooting NYPD officer

The 16-year-old rapper accused of shooting a New York Police Department (NYPD) officer has had his charges dropped, according to reports.

C Blu, real name Camrin Williams, was charged with shooting a 27-year-old officer in Belmont, a neighborhood in the Bronx borough, during a confrontation in January.

The officer, Kaseem Pennant, was injured in the Lorillard Place shooting.

He was released on Thursday after posting his $250,000 bond in connection with firearms and assault charges, before the charges were dropped.

Court officials confirmed the news to New York Post. We still don’t know why.

A spokesperson for the city’s legal department told the Daily Mail: “In accordance with the law on the family court, the case is now closed and we are not able to say more about it.”

The January incident allegedly happened after the officer’s gun went off during a fight with the teenager, police said. It also happened while Mr Williams was on probation for previous firearms charges, Fox News reported.

The move to drop charges against Mr Williams follows criticism from a police union of the judge handling the case, who cleared the teenager’s release from a detention center for minors.

“If anyone wants to know why we have a crisis of violence in this city, or why we are about to bury two hero police officers, look no further than this shameful bail,” said the president of the NYPD Police Benevolent Association, Patrick Lynch. a statement to Fox News.

“This individual chose to carry illegal weapons twice,” Lynch said. “He chose to fight and shoot a New York police officer.”

The Independent approached the New York State Office of Court Management for comment.
