The Italian replaced Xisco Munoz in October but failed to reverse the club’s downward trend.

Along with memorable victories against Everton and Manchester United, Watford has lost nine of his 11 games under his leadership.

The club have lost six straight games and conceded 16 goals in the process – only Leeds, Newcastle and Norwich have left more this campaign.

And their latest 1-0 loss to Tottenham leaves them 17th in the division – two points clear of Burnley in the relegation zone.

Watford would fall in the bottom three if the Clarets won their game in hand.

As a result, Ranieri is the second favorite to be the next high profile boss received from office.

And if fired, the 70-year-old would be the 15th managerial departure for club owners, the Pozzo family, since taking over in 2012.

Former Granada boss Diego Martinez is the favorite for the 4/1 position with Betfair.

The 41-year-old was promoted with the club before leading them to seventh place in his first top-flight campaign.

He reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League in the club’s first-ever European appearance before losing to Manchester United.

Athletic claim Martinez, who let his contract expire in June, has spent time in the UK working on his English and watching Premier League football.

Paulo Fonseca is next in the 5/1 bet having recently been tipped for roles at Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle.

Slavisa Jokanovic is available at 6/1, just ahead of Sam Allardyce (8/1) and Frank Lampard (10/1).
