On Friday afternoon, the driver of a cement truck lost control of her vehicle and crashed into an overpass at Beltway 8 East in Houston, Texas. The truck landed on a Ford Expedition driving through an intersection on Woodforest Boulevard. Inside the crashed vehicle were a twin boy and girl along with their mother and grandmother. The 22-month-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene after the horrific crash. ABC13’s KTRK-TV Houston shared surveillance footage of the crash from inside a local business. Footage captures eyewitnesses watching the tragedy unfold before rushing to save those trapped inside the vehicle. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported the concrete mixer truck was heading south on the ring road when it started raining. The cement truck driver reportedly lost control due to slippery road conditions and crashed into the overpass. Romo told KPRC Houston he saw the cement truck swerve to avoid a car. He then saw the lorry hanging from the overpass as the cars below tried to get out of the way before it fell and landed on the Ford Expedition. The three survivors were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the cement truck, a 36-year-old woman, was also slightly injured. An investigation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office did not immediately find probable cause to support the charges.” I called my wife and told her to give my children a hug and a kiss, a kiss because you never know,” Romo told reporters.

“We first tried to grab the baby, first and foremost. She was kind of stuck, and I was reaching back, [but] the front seat was a bit hard to get. And he just starts shooting in the front seat. I started pulling on the car seat to get the baby out and we managed to get her out before she got stuck,” said Raymond Romo, an eyewitness who tried to save those who were in the crashed vehicle.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported the concrete mixer truck was heading south on the ring road when it started raining. The driver of the cement truck reportedly lost control due to the slippery state of the road and crashed into the viaduct.
Romo told KPRC Houston he saw the cement truck swerve to avoid a car. He then saw the truck hanging from the overpass as the cars below tried to pull away before it fell and landed on the Ford Expedition.
“We saw him as we were in the middle of the parking lot landing on the vehicle,” adding, “instantly me and my friend Joe sprang into action.”
