Cellphone video appears to show tense moments during filming that left Takeoff dead

HOUSTON – Takeoff was not from the Houston community, but he was clearly loved by Houstonians.

Some of the memorabilia fans brought to a growing memorial were near the shooting scene as many offered their condolences and called for peace.

The murderous incident appears to have started with a heated exchange of words.

In the video sent to us by TMZ, rapper Quavo of internationally acclaimed hip-hop group Migos can be seen talking intensely outside 810 Billiards and Bowling on San Jacinto Street in downtown Houston, as a man said to be Takeoff stands nearby.

At around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, gunshots began to explode. At least three people were shot, but Houston police confirmed 28-year-old Kirshnik Khari Ball, better known as Takeoff, was the only person killed.

“Migos in general changed the whole music industry,” said one fan.

He was one of many who gathered at the memorial honoring the Atlanta-area native.

“It’s really sad to see,” he added.

“Another, almost like DJ Khaled dude…another. This is just insane,” another fan said.

“I’m at a loss for words because I feel like right now why now why him?” asked another fan.

Meanwhile, community leaders are reiterating what has become an all-too-familiar call for change.

“He represented our future, and losing one’s life to gun violence is absolutely absurd. We cannot continue to allow this to happen in a community like ours,” said Bishop James Dixon, pastor of the Community of Faith Church and president of the Houston NAACP.

Houston police said security guards who were present at the event before the shooting heard the shots but apparently did not see who fired it. They are reviewing surveillance footage and asking anyone with information to come forward.
