You may come across some during your holidays on the Dinardaise Croisette. Personalities from the cinema, the small screen, the business world or politics, who live or stay regularly in the Breton seaside resort. Dinard (35) is neither Saint-Tropez nor Monaco, but celebrities appreciate it for its tranquility and its superb maritime landscapes.
From 1922 to 1929, Picasso spent his holidays there!
Already at the time of the Belle Époque, Dinardais were able to meet Oscar Wilde, Winston Churchill, Jules Verne or Pablo Picasso (who spent his holidays in Dinard between 1922 and 1929); shake hands with Judith Gautier, the Lumière brothers, Debussy; carry the suitcases of Lawrence of Arabia or Kirk Douglas. It is also the Écluse beach, nicknamed “The Queen of the Beaches”, that Roland Garros landed his favorite Demoiselle plane there in 1910, that Agatha Christie took her first strokes, and that Serge Gainsbourg, a kid in the years 1938- 1939, spread out his towel there. A few years earlier, Suzanne Lenglen and Alain Gerbault, whose family is based in Dinard, exchanged a few balls on the clay courts of Dinard, the oldest French tennis club.
After Alain Delon, Hugh Grant is looking to buy a house there
Launched by the British aristocracy in the 19th century, Dinard is still popular. Even offshore, a whale’s stride from the beaches, Fort Harbor belonged to Alain Delon in the late 1960s. But the fortress lacked comfort, and the actor quickly lost interest in it and ended up selling it! Arguably the resort’s most famous guest today is British actor Hugh Grant, a golf enthusiast, who is currently looking to acquire property in the area.
The actress Catherine Deneuve, often invited to visit her friend Christophe Robin, the hairdresser and colorist to the stars, and the director Jean-Paul Rappeneau also have their habits there. Last season, the couple Virginie Efira and Niels Schneider also spent their summer holidays in the resort.
Philippe Katerine, the daughter of Bill Gates, Jean-Claude Narcy…
This year, we were able to meet Philippe Katerine and Julie Depardieu on the very busy Dinard seawall. Passionate about horses, Jennifer Gates, the daughter of the American billionaire, is even currently in Val Porée, to follow the Dinard International Jumping events.
The world of television is also well represented there. The stainless TF1 journalist Jean-Claude Narcy has his home base on the banks of Rance, and it is not uncommon to come across him, in sportswear, on the market. Bertrand Méheut, the former CEO of Canal +, the presenter Sidonie Bonnec, whose parents live in the station, or even Dominique Damien-Réhel, also presenter on the TNT channels, stay there very regularly.
The Pinault clan with the Chiracs and Salma Hayek
Same thing for the all-powerful Breton businessman François Pinault, who renovated a beautiful villa overlooking the sea, where he welcomed the Chirac couple (between 2010 and 2014), and more recently François Hollande and Julie Gayet. In this upscale district of the tip of the Malouine, his son, François-Henri Pinault, and his wife, the Mexican actress Salma Hayek, pass there regularly. Finally, much more discreet, Nicolas Hulot, the former Minister of Ecological Transition, owns a house, not far from there, at Pointe du Décollé in Saint-Lunaire.
Elegant and refined, the Breton seaside resort with British accents continues to seduce a world of celebrities who seek above all the tranquility and discretion that Dinardais offer them.
