83rd-minute winner Will Keane got three valuable points for Wigan in a 4-3 win at Burton after Kyle Joseph’s hat-trick had brought the Latics three times.
A frantic start to the game saw four goals in the first 28 minutes.
Albion took the lead after 13 minutes with John-Joe O’Toole propelling home a header after a short corner routine.
Wigan equalized six minutes later on his set piece, Joseph deflecting the ball past Kieran O’Hara using his thigh.
John Brayford came home thanks to a free kick from the left wing from Joe Powell, but Albion’s lead only lasted three minutes as Joseph scored for the second time, cleverly converting the cross to Olly Crankshaw.
Burton fell ahead for the third time when Kane Hemmings jumped on a loose ball to shoot home after just 72 minutes for Joseph to complete his hat trick a minute later as he superbly guided Tom Pearce’s cross to inside the post.
Keane ended a game gasping for air on his way home from Chris Merrie.
