Buffalo, New York, police say at least 10 people are dead and one suspect is in custody after a man armed with a rifle and body armor opened fire on a city supermarket.
Police said the shooting took place in Tops in the 1200 block of Jefferson Avenue.
It was not immediately known how many people had been affected or the severity of their injuries.
Investigators are investigating whether the alleged gunman broadcast the massacre live and posted a white supremacist manifesto online.

A suspect is in custody following a mass shooting at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo, New York, where police report ‘multiple’ victims were hit by gunfire after a shooter opened fire on May 14.
It is not known how many people were injured and if anyone was killed; the Buffalo Police Department reported multiple injuries.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said she was “monitoring closely” the incident and advised residents to avoid the area.
A statement from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office offers “condolences to the family and friends” of the victims. New York Attorney General Letitia James said “all of New York is with Buffalo after this tragic mass shooting.”

Police are investigating whether an individual who shot at a Tops grocery store in Buffalo, New York, killing 10 people, was motivated by white supremacy, according to NBC New York.
Investigators are also looking into whether the alleged shooter, who is in custody, posted a manifesto online, NBC reports, citing unnamed law enforcement sources.
Unconfirmed news reports suggest the shooter posted an online manifesto and streamed the mass shooting live on the Twitch platform.

The newspaper quotes the official as saying, “It’s like stepping into a horror movie, but it’s all real. It’s like Armageddon. It’s so overwhelming.
The official said one of those killed was a recently retired Buffalo police officer who worked as a security guard at the store.
No motive has yet been suggested for the shooting.

A witness told CNN the shooter was wearing army fatigues and a bulletproof vest. The eyewitness said the man, whom he described as white, held a gun to his chin before putting it on the ground and surrendering to officers.
