Germany’s Angela Merkel visited the Albanian capital Tirana on what is likely her last official trip to the region.
The outgoing leader met six heads of government from the Western Balkans including Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo.
She urged leaders to work with their local governments in their candidacies for EU membership.
“Once the conditions are met, the EU must keep its word and not keep inventing new conditions because it does not like dealing with potential new members for domestic political reasons,” said the Chancellor.
“If he doesn’t want to move the membership process forward, that creates a disappointment.”
