The brother of a man suspected of kidnapping and killing four central California family members has been arrested in connection with the horrific crime, authorities said Friday.
Merced County Sheriff’s Deputies late Thursday night booked a 41-year-old man Alberto Salgado in police custody, suspected of criminal association, complicity and destruction of evidence, according to a press release from the department.
Jesus Manuel Salgado, 48, was apprehended on Tuesday after attempting to kill himself, officials said. He was unable to speak to investigators due to his medical condition, authorities said.
He is suspected of taking the baby Aroohi Dheri; his parents, Jasleen Kaur, 27, and Jasdeep Singh, 36; and his uncle Amandeep Singh, 39, on Monday morning.
Their bodies were found at a nearby farm on Wednesday evening.
Early on in the investigation, Sheriff Merced Vern Warnke speculated that Jesus Manuel Salgado aided in the kidnapping, which was caught on surveillance cameras.
It was not immediately clear on Friday whether the younger Salgado had hired or been assigned a defense attorney.
