Britney Spears announced her engagement to boyfriend Sam Asghari with an exuberant post displaying a diamond ring engraved with the word ‘lioness’.
She wrote “I can’t believe it! With a video post to Instagram in which she winks, kisses a smiling Asghari on the cheek and replies “yes!” When he asks if she likes it.
Asghari, actor and personal trainer, posted his own photo of Spears showing off his ring on camera.
The news comes days after her father requested an end to guardianship from the court that controlled the singer’s life and money for 13 years.
Asghari’s manager Brandon Cohen has confirmed the couple are engaged. “The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love that have been shown to them,” Cohen told Reuters.
The four-karat diamond ring is engraved on the inside of the band with “lioness” because that’s her nickname for her, ring designer Forever Diamonds NY said in a statement. Her master jeweler, Roman Malayev, told Page Six: “Their journey together has touched people all over the world and we are delighted to be a part of their eternity… We are delighted to congratulate Britney and Sam on their recent engagement.
The couple met on the set of the Slumber Party music video in 2016.
The singer told a court in June that she wanted to marry Asghari and have a baby with him during a passionate plea to end guardianship, but said she was not allowed to remove a device intrauterine for birth control or even to drive with it.
Legally, Spears can get married, but the guardianship must approve it like other important life decisions.
Spears was previously married to Kevin Federline, with whom she shares custody of two sons, aged 14 and 15. She was briefly married to her childhood friend Jason Alexander in 2004.
