In September 2020, we report that the City of Brest had launched a call for tenders for the replacement of the Kemper stand at the Francis-Le Blé stadium, with the clearly stated ambition of guaranteeing optimal security until the start of service of the new Froutven enclosure, the date of the delivery date of which is still very vague.

According to our information, the dilapidated “RDK” stand, as it is nicknamed in Brest and which houses the two ultra groups (Ultras Brestois and Celtic Ultras), will be replaced this summer, with delivery expected for the start of the 2022-2023 season. In January 2019, a video posted by supporters had also highlighted traces of rust on the tubes that support the bleachers.

A hundred more seats, steps to replace the seats?

“It is aging and we have to hold on for another four or five years, explains Patrick Appéré. There are regular checks and we can’t take the risk that the stand will eventually be closed or that we will have a big problem one day. We had to anticipate and the choice was made to change it”. The sports assistant continues on the future layout: “We made sure that the new one could be dismantled into two parts to be resold behind or reused elsewhere on the territory”.

In fact, the grandstand, which will be fully covered in the future, will move back about one meter from its initial location and its capacity will increase to 1,099 seats (including ten PRMs with an accompanying person), i.e. one hundred more than at the start. ‘actual hour. The toilets and the refreshment bar will also be refurbished. According to our information, the City and the club are in discussions with the Professional Football League and the French Federation so that in certain places of the stand, in particular in the axis, behind the goal, the steps replace the seats. The total cost of this redevelopment will amount to one million euros, borne by the town hall of Brest.

The first away game of the 2022-2023 season?

For Pascal Robert, general manager of Stade Brestois, “there had recently been some concerns expressed by our supporters on this platform. We are very happy that the town hall made the decision to redo it. What is important for us now is the tight timing. We hope that the start of next season can be done with this new stand finished. We will certainly ask to play the first game of the next season away to give ourselves one more week”.

This decision to intervene this summer comes as the new stadium at Froutven, initially hoped for in 2022, will not see the light of day for a few more years. On Wednesday, moreover, the leaders of the Stade Brestois presented their project for the future enclosure to the mayors of Brest Métropole. The next step, “between June and September 2022”, will consist of defining the legal framework of the partnership as well as the keys to the distribution of funding, it is reported, among other things.
