Brendan Rodgers said to ‘get rid of Cristiano Ronaldo’ if he gets a job at Manchester United, with Leicester manager and ex-Liverpool boss hailed as ‘the right man’ to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Brendan Rodgers has been given advice on one of the first things he should do if he gets the job at Manchester United – get rid of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Pressure is mounting on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s post at Old Trafford and, although he has stepped away from the role, rumors continue to tie Leicester manager Rodgers as a possible replacement.

Solskjaer reportedly running out of time at Old Trafford and Rodgers could be the man to replace him

After the summer transfer window, everyone at Man United had much to be excited about starting this season.

The club had signed one of Europe’s most exciting wingers with Jadon Sancho, added quality at the back by signing World Cup winner Raphael Varane and brought in one of the greatest players. of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Many had tipped the Red Devils for a title challenge this season, but for some reason the opposite happened, and after 12 games they are 12 points behind leaders Chelsea.

With the form they present under Solskjaer, many fans are calling for him to be replaced and if that happens Rodgers could be the man to take over.

Things look bleak for Solskjaer who lacks time to save his job

Ahead of Watford’s humiliating loss, former Premier League star Carlton Cole lent his support to Rodgers and told talkSPORT why he thinks one of his first jobs – if he gets the job at Old Trafford – should be to sell star man Ronaldo as he has just returned to the club.

“Leicester fans are going to hate me for this one but I think Brendan Rodgers could come in and I think he would be the perfect man for Man United’s job,” the former West Ham striker told the Sports Bar.

“Get rid of Ronaldo, he’s [Rodgers] gonna have to get it out.

“The reason why, because if you have someone like Brendan, he wants to build for the future.

“They have some prospects in this team that haven’t even played yet, very good players, and there’s Jude Bellingham as well.

“You have to plan for the future – is Ronaldo the future of Man United?

Ronaldo has done extremely well for United since returning, but Cole still thinks they should sell him

“We know how he wants to play, Brendan Rodgers, he likes high press, he likes high energy, working without the ball, he likes it.

“He will eradicate the players who do not fit into this formation or this system, he must or he goes against his own morals.”

At the age of Ronaldo, 36, squeezing and working to retrieve the ball is not a viable option for the Portuguese striker.

That’s why Cole thinks Rodgers has no choice but to potentially move the attacker, and there’s every chance the Northern Irishman will too.

Rodgers has shown in the past that he is ready to make big decisions for the good of the team as a whole – which is exactly what he has done during his career at Liverpool with club legend Steven Gerrard.

Of Ronaldo, Cole added: “He’s always going to score a goal, but you have to play with his strengths and playing with his strengths is not playing with the strengths of Man United.

Ronaldo will always score but United sacrifice too much elsewhere to get the best of him

“Man United have to be a top team, they need the energy, they had it last season to be honest, they had it.

“Then coming into this season and getting Ronaldo you’re not going to turn down Ronaldo if he wants to come to you, so they have to ride him.

“Ole, I don’t think he figured out how to go back to last season and add Ronaldo to build the future.

“Ronaldo is the main man now and he scores all the goals and the most important ones, but it hasn’t helped him at all to get into this season with Ronaldo. This season has not been a good one for United.

Solskjaer has not been able to adapt Ronaldo to the way he would like to organize his squad

Even though he has stepped away from the role, Rodgers could very well be the man in the Old Trafford dugout in the near future.

If that happened, many Liverpool fans might feel aggrieved that he is going to their fiercest rivals after leading the Reds from 2012 to 2015.

However, Cole thinks it shouldn’t matter given how managers move to any club regardless of rivalries, as Antonio Conte joining Tottenham and Rafael Benitez traveling to Everton have shown after coaching Chelsea and Liverpool respectively.

“I don’t see why not [Rodgers to Man United], yes, he was at Liverpool but the managers are moving now, ”added Cole.

Rodgers led Liverpool from 2012 to 2015 and nearly won them the Premier League in 2014

“The best managers go everywhere now, if they’re needed and that’s the style of play, they go.

“Brendan Rodgers is a perfect fit for Man United right now because that’s how they were under Ole last season and I think he will add to that with more knowledge.”
