The situation changed little between the regional elections of 2015 and those of 2021, after the verdict of the ballot box given on Sunday, June 27: seven regions of hexagonal France remain on the right, five remain on the left. Only the Reunion region changes executive with the victory of Huguette Bello (For Reunion) who replaces the right-wing president Didier Robert (Objectif Réunion).
At the end of a vote marked by a strong abstention:
- 44.14 million people live in a region taken over by the right or the center;
- 22.63 million live in a region taken over by the left;
- the 349,273 inhabitants of Corsica retain an autonomous regional executive, that of Gilles Simeoni.
To facilitate reading, we have grouped the regions according to their “voting patterns” which have been similar since the 1998 regions, long before the 2014 regions were merged. Then, the regions are presented according to their population.
