Bethany police continue their investigation into the identity of human remains that a man found in a shallow grave in the backyard of his home on Monday.

Investigators told KOCO 5 that they’ve been at the Bethany home off Northeast 31st Street dozens of times this year for various calls.

“They range from domestic, assault, welfare checks and mental health calls,” said Lt. Angelo Orefice, with the Bethany Police Department.

But Monday morning’s 911 call led to human remains.

“There was a smell a while back, and we weren’t sure where it was coming from. But it was coming from that area,” neighbor Kimberly Wilkerson said. “It was pretty bad. A decaying smell.”

Longtime neighbors were simply shocked.

A family member from Texas told KOCO 5 that they believe the remains belong to a loved one.
