The first batch of coke was unloaded on Friday afternoon.

NMDC’s Nagarnar Steelworks in Chhattisgarh has commissioned the first coke battery, the government said in a press release dated October 29.

“NMDC’s Nagarnar Steel Plant in Bastar District of Chhattisgarh State came one step closer to commissioning on Friday, October 28, 2022, when Shri Somnath Nandi, Technical Manager, NMDC commissioned the coke battery No. 1. Shri K Praveen Kumar, ED Manager, Nagarnar Steel Plant and other senior officials were present on the occasion,” the government said in the press release.

The first batch of coke was unloaded on Friday afternoon.

Several major units are to be commissioned sequentially, the government said, so that their interdependence can be established smoothly at the Nagarnar steel plant. The second battery is to be commissioned in the next few days and the process will eventually lead to the commissioning of the hot rolling mill and thin slab casting in the coming months.

The Nagarnar Steel Plant aims to produce 2.89 million tons of high quality HR coils, plates and sheets per year, using state-of-the-art technology and achieving the highest level of energy efficiency.
