India’s equity benchmarks closed more than 2% higher on Tuesday, helped by widespread buying across the counters and a rally in markets globally.
The 30-stock Sensex closed up 1,344.63 points or 2.54% at 54,318.47, and the broader Nifty closed up 417 points or 2.63% higher at 16,259.30. .
About 2,624 stocks were up, 712 stocks were down and 125 stocks were unchanged.
Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel, Coal India, JSW Steel and ONGC were among Nifty’s top earners.
Broader markets also rose in sync with benchmarks – the BSE MidCap and SmallCap gained 1.2% and 1.6%, respectively.
Among the sector indices, Nifty metal gained the most – up more than 6% while oil & gas, media, autos, banking – up 2-3% were the other main gainers .
Investors gained Rs 12.2 lakh crore as the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies increased to Rs 255.7 lakh crore, according to preliminary exchange data.
