L&T Construction, the civil infrastructure business arm of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) giant Larsen and Toubro Ltd., has won a “significant” order from Greenko Group, a global leader in renewable energy.

The order is for the development of a downstream pumped storage project in Madhya Pradesh. The project, known as the Gandhisagar Pumped Storage Project (PSP), will be designed to meet a pumped storage capacity of 10,080 MWHr.

The civil and hydromechanical works of the pumped storage project will be carried out by a consortium led by L&T, within a strict deadline of 30 months.

When completed, the project will be one of the largest clean energy projects of its kind in India.

The Gandhisagar PSP is considering the creation of an upper reservoir near the boulder village of Khemla, about 75 kilometers from Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh.

The project includes the construction of an upper dam, intake structure with approach channel, buried steel-lined penstock/pressure well, surface power station, a draft tube tunnel, a tailrace exit structure and a tailrace.

Shares of Larsen & Toubro ended up 1.5% at Rs 2,056.
