The wife of famous Mexican drug trafficker Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera was arrested Monday at a Virginia airport for drug trafficking, federal authorities said.
Emma Coronel Aispuro, 31, was arrested at Dulles International Airport and faces charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana for importation in the United States, the Department of Justice said in a press release.
She also allegedly helped Guzman Loera escape a Mexican prison in 2015, the department said.
Guzman Loera was convicted in 2019 of 10 counts of participation in an ongoing criminal enterprise and multiple counts of distributing tons of cocaine in the United States. He was sentenced to life imprisonment over 30 years.
