Light to moderate rainfall in most places with heavy rain in isolated locations is likely over Tamil Nadu today and over Kerala and Mahe and a decrease in rainfall activity over the region thereafter, said IMD.
Chennai and several parts of Tamil Nadu received rain on Monday, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting more rainfall till December 15 due to cyclonic circulation and a low pressure area likely to form in the Bay of Bengal around December 13.
Schools in some areas including Tiruvallur and Uthukottai Taluks in addition to Kancheepuram district declared a public holiday on Monday based on the forecast.
According to the IMD, under the influence of cyclonic circulation over the northern interior of Tamil Nadu and adjoining southern interior Karnataka and northern Kerala, a low pressure area is likely to form over the same region towards the December 13. It will move west-northwestward away from the Indian coast thereafter.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the adjacent southeastern and central eastern Arabian Sea and along and off the Kerala-Karnataka coast on December 12-13.

# Tamilnadu: Due to increased rainfall and forecast of continued rain, all schools in Tiruvallur district are due to close at 3 p.m. today. In addition, a public holiday has been declared for all schools in the district for tomorrow December 13: District Collector, Thiruvallur.
