Gérald Darmanin announced, Thursday, July 22, measures to better control the possession of weapons. The Minister of the Interior was traveling in the Puy-de-Dôme to pay tribute to the three gendarmes killed on December 22, 2020 in Saint-Just by Frederik Limol, who was heavily armed.
“I will very soon propose to ban the acquisition and possession of transformed weapons of war which are in circulation today”, said the minister during a speech, sent to Agence France-Presse (AFP), delivered to the Ambert gendarmerie to which the three soldiers were attached. A “Decree” will be taken “In the coming days”, specified the entourage of the minister to AFP.

“Update the list of offenses”
Gérald Darmanin also referred to an article presented on Monday in the Council of Ministers which aims “To strengthen arms bans”. The text, which has yet to be discussed in Parliament, proposes “To update the list of offenses” leading to registration in the National File of Persons Prohibited from Acquiring and Possessing Weapons (Finiada), which identifies people who are not entitled to acquire or hold weapons.
The Minister of the Interior also wants the registration of those who have committed offenses “Relating to attacks on minors and the family”, always according to his entourage. The article also plans to register at Finiada “All judicial decisions: judicial review, house arrest with electronic surveillance or any other decision pronounced by the judicial authority”, said the entourage.
