A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation has already been recommended by the LG into the alleged breach of rules and procedural failings in the implementation of Excise Policy 2021-22.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has suspended 11 officials, including Delhi Excise Commissioner Arava Gopi Krishna and Deputy Excise Commissioner Anand Kumar Tiwari, for ‘serious failings’ in implementing the 2021-22 excise policy , sources said on Saturday.

Three ad hoc DANICS officers and six officials from the Delhi government’s excise department were also suspended, the LG office sources said.

The LG took this decision in view of “serious shortcomings on the part of the officers concerned” in the implementation of the excise policy, including “irregularities in the finalization of the tender and the extension post-tendering benefits” to some suppliers, they said. The action was taken by Saxena based on an investigation report filed by the Directorate of Vigilance (DoV).

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation has already been recommended by the LG into the alleged breach of rules and procedural failings in the implementation of Excise Policy 2021-22. Under the policy, implemented on Nov. 17, 2021, private companies obtained retail licenses for 849 liquor outlets in the city, divided into 32 zones.

The policy has now been withdrawn by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
