The number of people in Delhi-NCR reporting that someone catches COVID in their close social network has increased by 500% in the past 15 days, a survey has found. Around 19% of Delhi-NCR residents responding to a survey revealed that they had one or more people in their close network who had had COVID in the past 15 days.

The “COVID network prevalence” marks an increase of more than 500% in the past 15 days, said LocalCircles, the company that conducted the survey. The survey received contributions from 11,743 residents located in all districts of Delhi and NCR, the society said.

He asked respondents: How many people (including children) do you have in your close social network (family, friends, neighbours, colleagues) in Delhi-NCR who have had COVID in the last 15 days? In response, the majority of respondents, 70%, said: No one in the last 15 days. 11% answered 1 or 2, 8% answered 3-5 and 11% could not say.

A similar question posed by the company on April 2 revealed that only 3% of residents had someone in their close social network who had been infected with COVID in the past 15 days. The survey findings come as Delhi witnesses a sudden rise in COVID cases.

Delhi on Saturday recorded 461 new cases of COVID-19 – 5.33% of all those tested – and two deaths, according to data shared by the city’s health department.

About 67% of respondents were men and 33% were women, LocalCircles said. He claimed that the survey was conducted only among validated citizens, who had to be registered with LocalCircles to participate in the survey.
