Chief General Manager Sadre Alam and Deputy General Manager Prabhanshu Shekhar stationed at the Patna NHAI regional office have been arrested by the CBI for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested four people, including two National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials and two employees of a private company, in an alleged Rs 5 lakh corruption case.
Chief General Manager Sadre Alam and Deputy General Manager Prabhanshu Shekhar stationed at Patna NHAI Regional Office have been arrested by the CBI for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from Ashoka executives Buildcon Ltd, based in Nashik, Amit Kumar Gupta and Mukul Kumar.
It is alleged that NHAI officials exacted bribes from Nashik-based private company employees to obtain favors in paying inflated bills, manipulating measurement books, etc., the court said. CBI.
Following the arrest, searches were carried out at eight locations, including Patna, at the accused’s premises. Cash of Rs 70 lakh (approx) and documents related to various properties of Alam, as well as cash of Rs 6 lakh (approx) and jewelry (worth around Rs 80 lakh), including gold biscuits, ornaments of Shekhar, were recovered.
The incriminating documents recovered during the searches are scrutinized. The four arrested defendants will be brought before the relevant court, the CBI said.
