The bodies of two children have been found in a Minnesota lake as a team searches for their brother in what investigators fear may be a triple homicide.
“Obviously, a horrific set of facts seems to be developing,” Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher said at a news conference after the body of the first child was discovered. He added that “there is nothing more tragic than the loss of young children” and called the situation “probably a triple homicide”.
Fletcher left open the possibility that one of the children survived, although authorities were not optimistic.
“It’s possible that one of the kids is in the woods or somewhere else, but the likelihood decreases over time,” Fletcher said, according to CNN.
All three siblings are believed to be under 5 years old. Their mother is also missing. Her car, along with her children’s shoes, were all found near the lake where the two bodies were found. The child’s father was found dead in his home on Friday morning near Maplewood, Minnesota, in an apparent suicide.
