Bob Woodward: 20% of Republicans would now like to “push Trump off the cliff”

Washington Post Watergate reporter Bob Woodward told CNN on Thursday that the “dramatic” hearings of the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. would now figuratively like to push ‘Donald Trump’ off the cliff.

Whether Republicans are watching the hearings “or not, many of them know the earth is shaking,” Woodward’s Watergate partner Carl Bernstein added in an interview with Anderson Cooper.

“Why is the earth shaking? Because “the committee and the Department of Justice” know that “before, during, and after January 6” there was “massive obstruction and conspiracy by the president to the bottom … not to allow the transition from power,” Bernstein said. “What we actually know is that the Justice Department has proof of this massive conspiracy and cover-up,” he added.

John Dean, a White House attorney for Richard Nixon who turned against him, said the insurrection proceedings “work much better than the Watergate hearings”, with “very effective presentations”. They “probably come to Trump because they are so effective. He appreciates good media.

“We forget how long the Watergate hearings were,” Dean noted. “They were seven months old. I didn’t testify for a few hours; I testified for five days, eight hours a day. They were grinding.

Woodward agreed that the House Select Committee hearings were “very spectacular.”

“I think if you can step back, what’s going on here right now in the Republican Party…about 50% of Republicans would walk off the cliff for Donald Trump,” Woodward said. “Now I think at least 20% want to push him off the cliff.”

And 30% are obsessed with just winning, Woodward noted.

“If there’s a lesson to be learned from writing three books about Trump, spending hours interviewing him, it’s the lexicon: Win. You have to win. And they want to win,” he said. -he adds.

Voters “can do the math: is it a winning hand with Donald Trump or not? And it is eroding. Whether it matters, we’ll see.

The hearings reveal “meaty and dramatic” information, Woodward said.
