Biden to travel to Egypt for COP27 climate conference

President Joe Biden will attend the UN climate conference COP27 early next month, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed on Friday.

“On November 11, President Biden will participate in the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt,” Jean-Pierre said in a statement. “At COP27, he will build on the important work the United States has undertaken to advance the global fight against climate and help the most vulnerable build their resilience to climate impacts, and he will underscore the need for the world to act in this decisive decade”.

After arriving at the world’s most important climate talks largely empty-handed last year, Biden will now be able to tout the passage of the Cut Inflation Act, a bill that spends hundreds of billions dollars to clean energy initiatives and brings Biden’s pledge to cut U.S. emissions in half by 2030 within reach.
