Bed and breakfasts, campsites, train: with the lifting of restrictions, reservations are booming – Coronavirus

From Monday May 3, the French will no longer be subject to the 10 km limit. Something to give them desires elsewhere … According to the firm Protourisme, they are more than 12 million to consider leaving for the weekend of the Ascension, from May 13 to 16. The Pentecost will follow, from May 22 to 24.

It’s been a year since we yo-yo, to the rhythm of government announcements

This phenomenon makes the owners of lodgings happy. “At the moment, we are not idle,” confirms Laure Lebarbier, director of Gîtes de France in Ille-et-Vilaine. “After the wave of cancellations, we are taking a new one of reservations! We’ve been doing the yo-yo for a year, to the rhythm of government announcements ”.

Breton cottages stormed for bridges

At the national level, the occupancy rate for Gîtes de France is 25.5% in May, but it has increased by ten points in one week, proof of the current enthusiasm. And Brittany’s success cannot be denied: out of the 3,200 offers listed in Morbihan, Côtes-d’Armor and Ille-et-Vilaine, this rate climbs to 90% for the Ascension Bridge and at 75% for that of Pentecost.

As in 2020, summer promises to be auspicious: “In Morbihan and Côtes-d’Armor, 70% of lodgings are already reserved in July, nearly 80% in August,” underlines Laure Lebarbier. “It is the Franco-French market that is driving this demand, we have few foreign reservations”.

“A marked improvement” in the campsites

In the campsites too, the thrill is felt: “For ten days, there has been a clear improvement”, rejoices Nicolas Dayot, president of the Breton Union of outdoor hotels. “Until then, reservations were concentrated in July-August. Since the Prime Minister confirmed that the travel restrictions were going to be lifted on May 3, we have seen a lot of them for the spring, coming from the Bretons or from the inhabitants of neighboring regions ”.

I think we can still save the season despite the delay at the start!

This acceleration gives Breton campsites a breath of fresh air: “In mid-March, we had 40% fewer cumulative bookings compared to the same time in 2019. Yesterday, we had returned to -25%,” explains Nicolas Dayot. “I think we can still save the season despite the delay at the start! However, the month of May will undoubtedly be worse than last year, because we will not be able to reopen the outdoor pools until May 19, and the indoor pools on June 9 ”.

150,000 train tickets sold on Wednesday

As for train travel, a strong acceleration has been noted in recent days: “We sold 150,000 tickets on Wednesday, which is a very good figure,” said Thierry Chaplais, communication manager for SNCF in Brittany. What to catch up with? “It’s too early to tell… Currently, reservations still only represent 50% of traffic compared to a normal month of May”.

The company, which had greatly reduced its traffic, will return to eight TGVs out of ten from May 7, and almost 100% for the Ascension Bridge. “For those who wish to take advantage of it, it is better to book now”, continues Thierry Chaplais. “The more places are rare, the more the prices increase”. This is easily verified on the SCNF website! For example, almost all trains are full to make a Paris-Quimper on Wednesday May 12 in the afternoon or evening. There are only a few places left at 151 € for the last TGV of the day, it’s two to three times more expensive than normal.
