Austria Imposes National Lockdown As Covid-19 Crisis Worsens

The government has also announced its intention to make vaccinations mandatory from February 1 next year.

The nationwide lockdown from Monday will last for at least 10 days and could be extended for another 10 days, Schallenberg told reporters at a press conference in Vienna.

The move comes just days after Austria imposed lockdown measures on all ages 12 and over who are not fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
About 65% of the Austrian population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19, one of the lowest rates in the European Union where cases are increasing.
