Berettini makes it 7-5. Alcaraz, impressive again under pressure, hits a decent backhand and although Berrettini gets there he can’t get it back… it’s 8-5 Berrettini but it’s a first to 10 tie-break so he has still work to do.

The Osaka Game against unseeded Anisimova began, the 2019 and 2021 champion breaking straight away, with Anisimova starting nervously and serving two double faults.
The match enters a fifth hour with Alcaraz taking a mini-break on the first point after a thrilling rally. Berrettini won that direct comeback to the next point before taking a 3-2 lead after another rally of incredible intensity and power with both players hitting him softly… Then Alcaraz finished a powerful forehand which Berrettini failed to can’t recover. 3-3

Berettini takes it to 30-30. Alcaraz mixes it up on the next rally with a cushioning. At the moment, Carlos Alcaraz and Matteo Berrettini face off in a fifth set, with Berrettini (seventh seed) having just served to take a 5-4 lead in the final set.
