World number two Daniil Medvedev and fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas have both reached the third round of the Australian Open in Melbourne.
Russian Medvedev, the highest ranked player in the draw, beat Australian Nick Kyrgios 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 4-6 6-2.
23-year-old Greek Tsitsipas defeated Argentina’s Sebastian Baez 7-6 (7-1) 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 in three hours 22 minutes at Margaret Court Arena.
He faces Benoit Pair, who beat Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2).
US Open champion Medvedev faced a hostile crowd in favor of his home player at Rod Laver Arena.
“They probably have low IQs,” he said.
“I came to win this game and I’m happy that I managed to do it. It’s the only choice when you’re booed between the first and the second serve.
“The game is set to win, but then you have tough opponents like Nick. I just want to play my best and hopefully that’s enough to do something big.”
Meanwhile, the fifth seed Andrei Rublev is yet to drop a set in Melbourne after beating Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis 6-4 6-2 6-0.
The 24-year-old Russian will face the Croatians Marin Cilic after the former US Open champion beat qualifier Norbert Gombos 6-2 6-3 3-6 7-6 (8-6).
Australian perspective Alexander of Minaur, 22, won in front of the Rod Laver Arena home crowd with a comfortable 6-4 6-4 6-4 win over Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak.
Taylor Fritz won an American draw against Frances Tiafoe 6-4 6-3 7-6 (7-5) to set up a meeting with the Spanish 16th seed Roberto Bautista Agut, who beat Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-1 6-0 6-3.
