Bacary Sagna has given his insight into what Arsenal need to do to become a top team again.
The former Gunners right-back believes the club should sign a striker ‘like Olivier Giroud’ and need to finish in the top four to attract the best players.
During his seven-year spell at Arsenal, Sagna was one of the club’s most consistent players and helped them secure Champions League football every campaign.
Being in Europe’s top competition has eluded the Gunners for five years now, and speaking to Betting Expert, the Frenchman advised the club to sign a striker like his former team-mate Giroud to help them get back to the level they were.
“I would prefer that they [Arsenal] signed a pure no. 9,” he said.
“Someone who stayed in the box. A bit like what Olivier Giroud was.
“They need that focal point. If I had to take a player, I would take someone a bit like Giroud.
“But Michael [Arteta] is in charge and I think he already knows what he’s doing and he’s doing it very well and I’m happy for him.

Given Arsenal’s striking options at the moment, in which they have to rely on Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah for the rest of this season, who have scored just 10 goals in 35 games between them in all competitions, Arteta and the club are well aware of the need to sign a prolific striker.
However, as they discovered during the January transfer window, the club will need to secure a place in the top four to attract the best forwards in the game, Sagna believes.
“So next season is another season, and I’m sure they’ve looked at a lot of options,” added the former Manchester City right-back.
“They probably have a goal and they have to continue as they are right now, and the most important thing at the moment is qualifying for the Champions League.
“Then they will have time to think about their options.
“Perhaps from the academy?” Maybe bringing in a player from abroad? They were related to [Dusan] He and Vlahovic chose to stay in Italy, probably because he already knew the league.
“He’s been there long enough. And when you know a league you don’t want to leave. Changing countries, changing languages can be tricky.
