Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun emerges as Reims transfer target to replace Hugo Ekitike after PSG transfer

ARSENAL striker Folarin Balogun is reportedly being watched by French side Reims.

The Gunners striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he scored three goals.

Now he has returned to Arsenal, but with the arrival of Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira in the squad, opportunities in the attacking third seem rare.

And according to L’Equipe, he is now aligned to replace Hugo Ekitike in Reims.

Ekitike joined the French champions earlier this summer for £30m after scoring 11 times in 26 games last season.

Now Reims have drawn up a shortlist of forwards who could fill their shoes – with Balogun considered one of them.

Balogun’s contract doesn’t expire at the Emirates until 2025.

However, he has only received 10 first-team appearances since his promotion to the youth roster at the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

Due to his lack of minutes, Balogun may think a move to Reims is a chance for him to get more playing time.

That said, Reims are not looking to break the bank for Ekitike’s successor.

And with three years remaining on his current contract, that could make agreeing the fee a difficult task.

Reims would also be eyeing Aleksander Buksa from Genoa and Junya Ito from Genk.

The Ligue 1 side finished last season in 12th place.
