As Anthony Joshua prepares to face Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch, another of his previous conquerors has called him out.
Andy Ruiz Jr, who beat Joshua in 2019 and then lost the rematch, now wants a trilogy fight regardless if the Brit wins or loses to Usyk.

Ruiz was knocked down in the third round of his first fight with Joshua before turning things around to win
In the first fight between the two, Ruiz Jr pulled off one of the biggest upsets in boxing history when he knocked down ‘AJ’ four times on his way to a seventh-round knockout victory, despite entering in the competition as a huge underdog.
In the rematch, Ruiz Jr was over 15 pounds heavier than the first fight, looked unmotivated and it showed in the ring as he was comfortably beaten by Joshua in twelve rounds.
Now Ruiz Jr thinks he deserves another chance, especially because he gave Joshua a chance to win back his belts before.
“Once he beat me there, there should have been a trilogy,” Ruiz told Sky Sports. “I should have had one more opportunity to get those belts back, just like we gave him the opportunity with the rematch.
“Things happen, he lost to Usyk again and the best man wins.
“Of course there has to be a trilogy. Even if he loses or wins, or if I lose or win, there must be a trilogy one day and a little how.
Another option for Joshua’s fight in December could be Wilder or Whyte
Ruiz Jr could be in luck as Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn recently revealed the Briton will be back in action in December this year, so potentially the Mexican could be in the opposite corner.
That being said, there are also a number of other options, including ‘Bronze Bomber’ Deontay Wilder, who has announced he will be making his in-ring return.
Dillian Whyte could also be another potential opponent for Joshua, as the pair have a history, having fought once in the amateurs with ‘The Bodysnatcher’ in the lead, then again in 2015 in the professional ranks when ‘AJ’ won by KO.
For now, Ruiz Jr has to focus his attention on his next opponent Luis Ortiz whom he will fight on September 4th.
