Amber Heard explains why she thinks she was called a ‘liar’ in Johnny Depp’s lawsuit

Amber Heard has explained why she believes she was called a “liar” during Johnny Depp’s trial.

Heard is being sued by Depp for $50m (£40.1m) for suggesting he abused her in 2018 Washington Post editorial. Although she didn’t specifically name him, Depp says his allegations impacted his ability to work.

The question of the charity donation claimed by Heard for the settlement of the divorce she concluded with Depp was raised in court on Monday (May 16).

In 2018, the Aquaman star told a Dutch TV show RTL late at night that she had paid half of her $7m (£5.6m) divorce settlement to the charity American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

However, years after the charity said it had not yet received the donation, Heard told the court she “has not yet been able to meet those obligations”.

Depp’s lawyer asked if his announcement was due to wanting ‘praise’, ‘good press’ and ‘appearing altruistic publicly’, to which Heard replied: ‘It wasn’t in my interest’ .

Elaborating, Heard said, “My interest is in my name – to clear my name. At the time, I was called a “liar” and my motives were questioned. I saw that it was important to clarify this.

She continued, “I wanted to make a statement to make sure there was no doubt. That I couldn’t be labeled these things just because Johnny was the biggest star and had more publicity.

These comments came after a petition to have Heard removed from the sequel gained heat online.

Heard has previously condemned the campaign to have her removed from the film and denied that the outcome of the Depp libel case impacted her own franchise.

“Paid rumors and paid social media campaigns don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality,” Heard said in a statement. “Only the fans actually did Aquaman and Aquaman 2 arrive. I’m excited to start next year.

Later in her testimony, she refuted Depp’s lawyer’s claim that her ex-husband was the reason she was chosen. Aquaman.

On Wednesday, May 18, former *NSYNC singer Lance Bass came under fire for mocking Heard’s emotional testimony in a viral TikTok video.
