Amber Heard has described the moment she met Elon Musk at the 2016 Met Gala after her then-husband Johnny Depp “lifted me up” on the red carpet.
Ms Heard spoke at the multimillion-dollar libel lawsuit in Fairfax, Virginia on Monday, where she said she chatted with the Tesla founder at the red carpet event in New York on May 2 2016.
The Aquaman actor told the court that she and Mr Depp planned to go to the Met Gala together as guests of Ralph Lauren.
However, the event came shortly after her 30th birthday, where she said she was “molested” by her husband.
She claimed she didn’t have a phone at the time because Mr Depp threw it out the window, so she couldn’t find out if he would still join her at the event.
“I wasn’t sure what was going on or when he would show up or if he would show up,” she said.
“I had no way of knowing,” she added.
Ms Heard told the court she walked the red carpet alone and ‘sat next to an empty place setting for Johnny’ after he ‘effectively stood me on the carpet’.
It was while walking the red carpet alone that she said she met Mr Musk, whom she described as “a gentleman” and said she was at the event with his mother.
“I was queuing right in front of a gentleman. It was Elon,” she said.
“I didn’t recognize him at first. We started talking and he reminded me that we had met once before.
Ms Heard said they developed a friendship after that meeting.
“He seemed like a real gentleman. He was really nice,” she said.
“He sat at a nearby table and we started talking that night and then we eventually became friends.”
Ms Heard was then asked about the testimony of her former nurse Erin Falati, saying the address had ‘reported having used illicit drugs, mushrooms and MDMA on 09/05/2016 at home with a male acquaintance of foreground”.
Ms Falati said Ms Heard said her husband ‘was not aware of her male visitor or of her illicit drug use’.
Ms Heard refuted Ms Falati’s claims, saying she didn’t even believe her in Los Angeles at the time.
Ms Heard and Mr Musk are believed to have dated between 2016 and 2018 and the SpaceX boss has been named on his witness list for the trial.
During opening statements, Ms Heard’s lawyers said Mr Depp had been “obsessed” with Mr Musk.
The ex-spouses’ agent, Christian Carino, previously said at trial that Ms Heard was dating Mr Musk around the same time she was trying to reconcile with her husband.
Ms Heard spoke on Monday for a third day of testimony as the trial resumed after a week-long hiatus.
Mr Depp is suing his ex-wife for defamation over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post where she describes herself as a “public figure representing domestic violence”.
the Pirates of the Caribbean The actor is not named in the article, which is titled “I spoke out against sexual violence – and faced the wrath of our culture. This must change”.
However, Mr Depp claims this falsely implies he is a domestic abuser – which he strongly denies – and has left him struggling to land roles in Hollywood. He’s suing for $50 million.
Ms Heard is fighting back for $100million, accusing Mr Depp of orchestrating a ‘smear campaign’ against her and describing her lawsuit as a continuation of ‘abuse and harassment’.
The trial began on April 11 in Fairfax, Va., with explosive testimony in the courtroom.
