Alishah Pointer’s family gather as the house she was found in is demolished

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio – The family of Alishah Pointer, 22, who were kidnapped, tortured, killed and found in a burnt down house in East Cleveland, gathered in the abandoned house where her body was found as the city was demolishing the Saturday house.

Pointer’s body was found in a house in the 14500 block of Savannah in East Cleveland. She died of gunshot wounds and her death was considered a homicide.

Ward 3 East Cleveland Councilor Ernest Smith said the house was already marked with a red tag for demolition last year, but he wanted to speed up the process after Pointer’s death.

“In a tragic incident like this, I felt, my colleagues felt and the mayor felt it was very, very important to get rid of this horror,” Smith said. “Not only for the family, but for the members of the community. Mostly my neighbors and residents who reside in Savannah.

Kathryn Pointer, Alishah Pointer’s aunt, said she received a call yesterday informing her of the upcoming demolition and quickly reunited her family.

“I said, ‘Be here, wear your shirts,’ because that’s the reason we’re here, because of my niece. So we will support her and let her name stay in everyone’s memory, even in everyone’s mouth, ”said Kathryn Pointer.

Kathryn Pointer said the demolition gave her family a little sense of closure and that she was grateful for the support they received from the community.

“Grateful. Grateful. Some sense of closure, but not a lot. But just grateful,” said Kathryn Pointer. “It really rocked Cleveland. So we got a lot of support, a lot of support. Everyone got us. really kissed. And it was just wonderful. “

Four people accused in connection with Alishah Pointer’s death have each been charged with two counts of aggravated murder, as well as one count of kidnapping.

Police did not say what role each suspect allegedly played in the kidnapping, torture and murder of Alishah Pointer.

Investigators said her attackers believed she had information related to an unrelated fatal shooting in Cleveland days earlier. Police are uncertain whether or not Pointer was aware of the crime at the time.
