Aleksandar Mitrovic hits back at booing Sunderland fans after helping Fulham win FA Cup replay at Stadium of Light

Aleksandar Mitrovic told Sunderland boo boys he was a Geordie as Fulham beat them in an FA Cup replay.

The ex-Newcastle star was among the substitutes but that didn’t stop Sunderland fans from booing the Serbia international throughout Wednesday night’s game.

And the teasing only intensified when the striker came on in the second half with his Magpies past following him at the Stadium of Light.

But that hardly put off Mitrovic, who spent three years at Newcastle before joining Fulham in 2018.

In fact, it only boosted him – although he couldn’t make it on the scoresheet as the west London side prevailed 3-2 in a clash of entertaining cup at Wearside.

After being warned by local fans, Mitrovic told the BBC: “I love it.

“I’m a Geordie boy, so they don’t like me here. I knew it before!

“Good atmosphere and three goals against them, so I’m sure a lot of Newcastle fans will be happy too.”

Mitrovic has now gone five games without a goal for Fulham, but he put Andrea Pereira up for Wednesday night’s second.

The 28-year-old was falling off the pitch when he put it back in a dangerous area for the former Manchester United star to score before hitting a billboard.

As Sunderland fans taunted him for his downfall, he and Pereira celebrated in front of them with the midfielder even shutting them up.

But there aren’t too many worries from the Serbian striker as the Cottagers are in the midst of their Premier League campaign.

“It was really difficult to come off the bench, but I got an assist,” he said.

“I’d be happier if I grabbed a goal but I managed to find Andreas who put the goal away. In the end the job was done so we’re really happy.

Fulham will now face Leeds in the FA Cup as Nottingham Forest travel to Craven Cottage this weekend.
