Preamble

Captain Kim Little says Arsenal “need to do more and need to be better” which sums up their situation ahead of their Champions League clash with Ajax. A 2-2 draw at home leaves progress to the group stage hanging in the balance, but the Gunners will be confident after their weekend routing against rivals Spurs.

Arsenal were mediocre last week in the first leg, there’s no doubt about it but, at the same time, they have quality throughout the squad and those people won’t want to be kicked out of the Champions League until October. The Gunners will think they can go far this year and an exit at such an early stage would be a huge failure.

Failing the group stage will be a blow for Arsenal, especially losing to supposedly inferior opposition. Ajax reached the knockout stages in 2020-21 but did not play last season so they will feel another year without a foray into the competition proper would be disappointing.

Let’s hope for a cracker.

Kick-off at 6:00 p.m. BST.
