Abilene and State Police Increase Traffic Enforcement ‘Click It Or Ticket’ Over Memorial Day Weekend

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The Abilene Police Department (APD) said it will increase its “Click It Or Ticket” traffic enforcement over Memorial Day weekend.
In a press release, APD said you should expect to see more officers on Abilene roads through Sunday, June 4. The police began this increase on Monday.
“This application aims to encourage drivers and passengers to fasten their seat belts,
promote alternative safe driving habits and reduce road fatalities“APD wrote.
Officers will patrol the high traffic areas of Abilene North and Abilene South.
According to AAA, 3 million people are expected to take a Memorial Day weekend trip this year. With that, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will also be busy on state roads throughout the long weekend and will remind all drivers and passengers to buckle up.
TxDOT has added a shocking number to watch; 1,258 unbuckled drivers and passengers died in 2022, an increase of 2.5% over 2021 figures.
“State law requires that every person in a vehicle be buckled in with a seat belt, whether they are seated in the front or back. Fines and court costs for failing to fasten seat belts can reach $250 or more“, TxDOT included.
While driving this weekend, be sure to wear your seatbelt and obey all rules of the road. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!
